I’ve been using this method, and it has been incredibly effective! So, without further ado, let’s dive into the details of what I did that yielded excellent results.
Here’s the process:
- Start by gently scraping your magnet with a non-abrasive tool (avoid metal) to remove any excess debris or metal fragments. Afterward, wipe it clean with a dry towel or cloth.
- This step can be approached in one of two ways. You can either create a 50%-50% mixture of water and vinegar, or simply use soap (like Dawn) and water. Submerge the magnet entirely or apply the solution directly to the magnet, then wrap it in a towel. Check it after an hour or two, and if it’s still damp, you should be able to scrape off any remaining residue and begin scrubbing with a brush. Make sure the brush is not abrasive or metallic to preserve the magnet’s integrity.
- Since vinegar is acidic, we want to use soap and water to thoroughly remove any traces of it.
- Once you’re satisfied with the result, ensure the magnet is completely dry.
- Finish the process by spraying your magnet with a rust-repellent product, such as Fluid Film or WD40.
- Wipe it down and store it for future use!
